The Missing Woof

I remember back when Ketzl was a pretty young puppy, we always used to wonder if she had a bark at all. She never felt the need to let out a full “Woof!”, and pretty considerately used what we termed “mini-woofs” to get our attention (which involved blowing out her cheeks a bit and vocalizing just enough for us to hear — almost like a whisper, if dogs could do that). It took an annoying lab, constantly trying to mount her one day, for us to hear the full power of her real bark. And, when it came — wow. Deep, resonant… loud. And now, it’s gone — replaced with a strange, strangled-sounding two-tone “woo-woof!” I suppose I should have expected it, given that Degenerative Myelopathy moves forward and affects muscles along the way, but somehow I didn’t think it’d take her voice, too.

Scared us there for a moment, Dave - "And now, it's gone."

Fortunately, not yet! (But, inevitable...)

Yes. I once commented here about putting my Lab down (and never having a big dog again). Presently I am online researching DYI pet euthanasia as my 16 yr. old cat is going (been on thyroid meds for a year and now has leukemia).

The power of blogging-amazing.

Take care.

Yeah, I remember, of course. :-(

Sorry to hear about the cat, too. DIY euthanasia isn't something I'd want to attempt, though. (Though at-home is something else.)

Whatever you choose, though, may it be pleasant for all... and may the memories be sweet.

My mind is not made up re: DIY, and besides, other than for small animals, there really is no way that is as safe as a vet. Still, I think I'd be open to it as it is so personal.

Thanks for the thoughts.
