SDAgent xxx is not running as root

I keep getting this error in the log when I run a backup that I have been doing for years. The 1TB backup usually takes less than ten minutes each time I do it (I write down the time), I noticed today it was taking 20 minutes at first step so I knew something was wrong. The log showed the root error in red.

I saw a very old thread with similar title here so, after a reboot, I tried the main window lock-unlock method but I got the same error on the next backup try.

After the root error, there is a page of red errors in the log, but I'm guessing they all stem from the root (just saw my pun there) so unless you need the log...

btw, each time the SDAgent error occurs it shows a different #

Any suggestions?

You have either launched SuperDuper from Spotlight and are running it from a drive other than the startup drive while it's authorized (unlocked), or it was copied from another drive while authorized and the authorization wasn't preserved by whatever did it.

Ensure you're running from the startup drive, re-lock and re-unlock the lock in the main window.

This is my wife's laptop. No external drive except the backup drive which is only connected for backup. Neither I nor my wife use Spotlight because we don't use that many different apps. SD was installed from the DMG. But I tried again and no dice UNTIL I did the reverse of what you suggested.

I launched SD. The lock was unlocked. The text next to it says Click to require password authentication before copying. Clicked and entered the password. I then locked the lock in the main window and clicked Copy Now without unlocking it. I was expecting the next step would be the sw asking me to enter a pw again but it didn't. It jumped through the prep steps in locked mode and started the backup normally.

I'm happy but confused as to why when SD was unlocked on my wife's laptop it wasn't working.

On my computer I just tried SD and after launch it shows as unlocked and clicking Copy Now starts the way I expected my wife's backup to work...

It was unlocked but only partially authorized. That's why I said "lock and re-unlock".
