Too long preparing drive

I have a 200GB USB drive that I want to backup to a similar external drive.
But SD has taken almost an hour "preparing" the drive to be copied.

I use SD for 3 other pairs of drives, but this is the first time I've used it on this drive. I had backed it up previously with a different program.

The drive can be read and written to, no problem.

Any ideas as to why this could take so long...if it isn't hung up.

Thanks

Mac OS X 10.4.0, MacPro.
