Backing up an OS spread across multiple partitions

Hi,

I've been able to find numerous threads on backing up to partioned drives, but I haven't been able to locate anything about backing up OS installations that are spread across multiple partitions, as would be standard in a Linux or UNIX environment, and which is arguably wise in OS X, as well. I have my OS X Tiger installed with Applications and Users directories mounted on separate partitions, linked using mounts in NetInfo Manager.

I realize that I could partition my backup drive with the same partitions, and then back up each partition separately, but doing so would mean breaking these links on the backup. (This would happen unless the backup partitions were named identically to the active partitions, namely 'Applications' and 'Users'. However, mounting the backup drive would then confuse the system because it would not know which 'Applications' or 'Users' partition to associate with the mount point.)

Is SuperDuper! capable of backing up the entire logical drive, partitions uncluded? Or is there another workaround that you would recommend?

Thanks!

No, that's not something we do. I'd suggest exactly what you mentioned: back up each separately. It doesn't matter much if the links are broken, since once restored they'd be correct, right?
