v3.0 Beta 7 Snapshot Creation Failure

Just upgraded to v3.0 Beta 7 from a previously working Beta 6.

When attempting to start the backup, it fails with a dialog reading :-

"Your settings are improperly configured. Disk image "redacted" is not writeable or the path is invalid".

This happens with both an existing (Beta 6 created) disk image and with creating a new disk image. The path to the disk image is valid and is also writeable (according to Finder).
Possibly connected to this is an odd disk image name in the main window which reads :-

"Pressing "Copy Now" will use "Backup - All Files" to copy Macintosh HD to SDTargetVolume.QualifiedName using Smart Update"

This is running on a 2017 15" MacBook Pro running High Sierra 10.13.1.

Also, removing the Beta 7 install, plus cleaning out cache and preferences files (via AppZapper) and restoring the Beta 6 version now has this issue as well.

Help?

Update: After re-installing Beta 6 again, the backup now fails with the following log entry:

Please go back to Beta 7 and uncheck the "image" option in the advanced tab of Options...

Also - could the locate you were trying to write to (assuming the image option is off) read/only or invalid? I think it was!

Gone back to Beta 7 ... and significant progress. The backup now completes (although I have no clue what's changed).

The "image" option in the advanced tab of options is greyed out (and currently deselected).

Plus the location I was writing the disk image to is very much valid and very much readable and writeable (verified with Finder and from the Bash prompt).

Which is a roundabout way of saying that previous beta 7 installs didn't work and now they do, without doing anything on my part.

Confused doesn't even come close.

One final note for beta 7, updating the prebinding on the backup disk image takes a looong time (around 5 mins)

Updating prebinding is done by the system; it can take a while. There are perhaps some optimizations we could do in the future to not ask it to update, but I find it useful in general (and usually people aren't usually waiting for updates).

What's different in this case... I don't know why it suddenly started working. Let me know if it happens again.

Will do and thanks - SuperDuper is usually rock solid and has saved me several times over the years. I can only start to guess the "fun" that the introduction of APFS has caused.
