SD and TM side by side on APFS?

Now that TM works with APFS will SD backups and TM backups be able to share an APFS volume, similar to how it was possible with HFS+ a few generations ago?

If so, what would be the best way to configure a TM backup disk now, so it will be possible when SD is ready for Big Sur?
