Creating a partition to run legacy OS (Mavericks)

I just bought the latest model of MacBook Air (2017 model). I would like to partition its HD and have Mavericks running in that 2nd partition.

I have a similar 2-partition setup on my 2010 MBAir (i.e., Mavericks & Snow Leopard).

I just heard (from an Apple Forum) that this kind of setup will no longer work on Apple notebooks. Is that true??!? IOW, I cannot have one partition running High Sierra and another running Mavericks?

Before I go through the hoops to partition and attempt to restore from my SDuper backup of my Mavericks system, I'd like to find out if this plan will work.

Thanks in advance.

You definitely can’t run Mavericks with a new Mac. The old OS doesn’t support the new Mac’s hardware.

It has nothing to do with the partitioning. It has to do with the hardware support in the OS.

I see.

Do you know what the oldest version of the OS is that can be run on a MacBook Air 2017?

Apologies for the delayed reply here - the notification of this post somehow went to junk!

I unfortunately don't know. I'm guessing whatever OS it came with - that's typically the case.
